Hints of Lawlessness

January 8, 2026  |  Written by Tyler Parrott

The set that releases in March, A Lawless Time, is a particularly exciting release because it initiates the first set rotation for Star Wars™: Unlimited. But that’s only one of many reasons to get excited about it! Before we get fully into preview season for the set, I’ve assembled a list of fun facts, trivia, and teases to get the speculation going.

Of course, the most exciting feature of this set is the introduction of multi-aspect cards, with their new frame and exciting deckbuilding possibilities. But there are a lot of other elements of this set that make it unique! Did you also know…

  • This set contains characters from seven different teams from throughout the Star Wars franchise, each assembled for a different heist or rescue mission.
  • A small but memorable subtheme within the set revolves around exchanging control of game pieces, with 9 total cards either giving away, taking, or exchanging cards with an opponent.
  • There are multiple leaders with more than one non-hero/villain aspect in this set.
  • This set contains 32 different alien species among its non-unique units. Among those alien species, Ithorians appear the most often.
  • A new trait is introduced in this set for two unique units. This trait will be used rarely, as it’s for a kind of character that isn’t common in Star Wars—but every appearance is memorable!
  • This set introduces a verb to our card templating terminology for a kind of effect that we’ve had in card abilities since Spark of Rebellion.
  • The leaders in this set are designed with higher risk, higher reward mechanics than the kinds of leaders we’ve designed in the past. You’ll have to be strategic about when and how you spend your resources (or discard your cards, or defeat your units, or give tools to your opponent) in order to reach their full potential!

This time, set lead John Leo (with help from co-lead Joe O’Neil) wrote most of the subtitles for A Lawless Time, and they came up with some particularly evocative ones. So, what are some of the subtitles you can find in this set?

  • Programmed to Kill
  • Reconsider Your Allegiance
  • Creating A Diversion
  • So Wizard!
  • Plays By His Own Rules
  • Where’s The Money?
  • No Survivors
  • Bring Down the Empire
  • Facing the Light
  • Radical Instigator
  • The War Has Just Begun
  • I Don’t Need Luck

With the introduction of Credit tokens, the decision of how to spend your resources has never been more dynamic. There are a lot of cards in this set that ask you to spend a little extra to get an additional effect, and this set has the most expensive Common card we’ve ever printed! But that’s not the only fun piece of trivia; did you know…

  • A pair of characters that have been much-requested on social media finally get their first unit cards.
  • There is a cycle of six Common units with two non-hero/villain aspects and two different keywords (one for each aspect). What keywords do you think are paired together on each card?
  • One of the leaders in this set has received multiple leader cards before, but this time they’re sporting a new (to Star Wars: Unlimited) and lesser-known look.
  • There are some wacky trait lines on units in this set, including:
    • Underworld + Wookiee + Bounty Hunter
    • Underworld + Vehicle + Fighter + Transport
    • Rebel + Tusken + Bounty Hunter
  • A leader in this set doubles specific triggered abilities in a way that’s similar to Grand Admiral Thrawn (Jump to Lightspeed, 2).
  • Staples from Spark of Rebellion return with a twist, with two new variants of “remove all units” events and two new cards that accelerate your resource generation (permanently).
  • Start collecting your Gambits now, because a unique unit in this set makes the trait worth building around in Premier.
  • A pair of effective removal events reference two halves of a saying used in the Andor TV show.
  • This set has more Speeder units than any other set. I wonder why that would be?

Finally, I know fans are always eager to know what cards do. I can answer some of those questions…but I can’t promise you’re seeing the whole story with each of these abilities. What cards do you think they’re on, and what else could they do?

  • Opponents can’t take control of this unit.
  • Search the top 10 cards of your deck for any number of Droid units…
  • …If its cost is odd, create a Credit token.
  • Defeat any number of units you own but don’t control.
  • Play a card from your hand, ignoring its aspect penalties.
  • When this event is discarded from your hand or deck:
  • Choose an aspect. Give each enemy unit with that aspect…
  • On Attack: You may defeat a friendly resource. If you do…
  • …They may play the revealed card for free. If they do…
  • Look at all of an opponent’s resources. You may…
  • While you control 7 or more units…
  • …additional regroup phase…
  • …you may have the attacking unit deal combat damage before this unit.
  • When Attack Ends:

That’s all the clues I have for you today! I look forward to seeing everyone’s speculation on social media as we begin preview season in the next few weeks.

Until then, may you feel inspired to try something new.
