Casual Play

Just as it sounds, a Prerelease event takes place just before the release of a new set. Starting about a week or so before the set drops, a Prerelease event involves a simple sealed tournament, in which you and your friends can try out cards from the new set early.

With booster packs awarded just for participating and even more given out for the winners of each round, Prerelease events are a fun, relaxed way to dive into a new set and see what the new cards have to offer!

Up for some recurring fun? Weekly Play events are simple, open-ended events that stores host on a weekly basis. Weekly Play is pretty much constant, with events happening from the moment a set releases onward—the whole point is for it to be available every week, after all!

Whether a Weekly Play event is a short tournament, a simple, casual gathering, or something else entirely is up to each individual store. All you need to do is attend, and you can net yourself a unique promo pack each week that you participate in your store’s Weekly Play.
 

If you’re looking for a taste of the tournament scene, then Store Showdowns are for you! Beginning shortly after the release of a new set, Store Showdowns are casual tournaments that award prizes for both participation and placement. This is the most “competitive” that Casual Play gets, but the focus here is still on having fun and learning the game, making this the perfect, low-stakes opportunity to test out your tournament chops!
