Secrets of Power

July 27, 2025  |  Written by Peter Schumacher

It’s been a bombastic second year of the Star Wars™: Unlimited trading card game. In the spring, we saw the arrival of Jump to Lightspeed, bringing epic space battles to the table with its focus on pilots and starships. In the summer, we launched Legends of the Force, bringing powerful Jedi, Sith, and other warriors into the fray as the Force took center stage. But there’s more to Star Wars than dogfights and lightsabers, and as we head toward autumn and the release of our next set, we turn our attention to the machinations at play behind the scenes.

Welcome to the official first look at Secrets of Power, the thrilling next set of Star Wars: Unlimited!

For this set, we step away from the battlefield and dive into a war of information and intrigue. While there are still plenty of units and events that can pull their weight in a fight, the real standouts of this set are the saboteurs and the schemers who plot their way to victory behind the veneer of their public masks. With a new keyword, a new mechanic, and a new token unit, there’s a lot on offer in Secrets of Power

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what’s in store for the new set!

Starting us off, we have a new pair of Spotlight Deck leaders to show you. For Secrets of Power, the Spotlight Decks feature Chancellor Palpatine and Padmé Amidala as leaders, each coming with 4 additional Special-rarity cards in their pre-built decks. Both of these leaders also showcase the new gameplay elements added in this set, which we will cover in a moment.

First off, we have Chancellor Palpatine (Secrets of Power, 1), a Vigilance and Villainy leader whose playstyle revolves around the set’s new keyword, Plot. This keyword’s ability is relatively simple, but also quite powerful: when you deploy your leader, you can play a card with Plot from your resources (paying its cost), replacing it with the top card of your deck. This keyword has some similarities to Smuggle from Shadows of the Galaxy, but with two very important differences: playing a card with Plot always uses its normal printed cost, and Plot only triggers when you deploy your leader, which means you can’t play that card from your resources at any other time (unless an ability says otherwise).

There is a unique advantage to the way Plot works, and that is the fact that you can use it to play multiple cards at once. All of the Plot cards in your resources trigger when your leader deploys, which means so long as you have the resources to pay for them, you could play two, three, or more cards all as part of the same action. For example, when the Chancellor Palpatine leader deploys at seven resources, you could immediately play both Cad Bane (Secrets of Power, 34) and Armor of Fortune (Secrets of Power, 70), potentially swinging the battle in your favor. And, since Palpatine’s ability grants you a discount on the first card you play with Plot when he deploys, you’ll even still have some resources left over!

Naturally, any deck with the Chancellor Palpatine leader will want to ensure that it can make it to that big seven-resource turn. Fortunately, the other cards in Palpatine’s pre-built deck provide plenty of tools to make that happen. Fielding a Corrupt Politician (Secrets of Power, 79) or two can provide some crucial blockers at key moments, while the event I Am the Senate (Secrets of Power, 92) can provide you with a whopping 5 Spy (Secrets of Power, T01) tokens that your opponent can’t afford to ignore. These new token units may seem unassuming at first glance, but each of them possessing the Raid 2 keyword alongside the Official trait—which has a lot of synergies in this set—can make them deceptively lethal. Finally, if you have need of a specific Plot card before Palpatine is ready to deploy, simply declare When Has Become Now (Secrets of Power, 245) and accelerate your plans before your opponent can effectively counter them!

Facing off against Chancellor Palpatine is none other than Padmé Amidala (Secrets of Power, 16), a Cunning and Heroism leader whose playstyle requires skill at knowing when to show your hand—literally! Her abilities let you deal a point of damage whenever you reveal or discard any number of cards from your hand, slowly and steadily chipping away at your opponent’s forces while they struggle to form a proper retort. This naturally works well with cards that let you discard a card for a benefit, such as Furtive Handmaiden (Secrets of Power, 197). However, where Padmé’s abilities really shine are with the new “disclose” mechanic.

Whenever a card instructs you to “disclose” a number of aspect icons, you must reveal cards from your hand with those aspect icons among them in order to satisfy the disclosure requirement. For example, Captain Typho (Secrets of Power, 98) has an ability that has you disclose a Command and Heroism icon. To satisfy this requirement, you could reveal two different cards—such as Anakin Skywalker (Secrets of Power, 201) for the Heroism icon and Jar Jar Binks (Secrets of Power, 111) for the Command one—or you could reveal a single card that has both icons, such as C-3PO (Secrets of Power, 93). Since you can disclose the same card more than once to satisfy different abilities, C-3PO comes especially in handy with his ability to return himself to your hand; after all, your opponent doesn’t gain any useful new information if you disclose a card that had already been in play, and with a set like Secrets of Power, information is everything!

With over 260 new cards, the new Plot keyword, Spy tokens, and a plethora of crafty and calculating schemers, Secrets of Power brings a whole new dynamic to Star Wars: Unlimited unlike any set that came before it. Stay tuned for more news, previews, card spoilers, and gameplay as we plot our way to the set’s release this November!
