Command
As we fly toward the release of the Star Wars™: Unlimited trading card game, we want to show off each of the game’s deckbuilding aspects. In a game of unlimited possibilities, the aspects help shape the direction and mechanics of the cards in your deck. We’ve shown off the Heroism (white), Villainy (black), and Vigilance (blue) aspects at this point, and today we’d like to take a look at the next one: the green aspect, Command!
The Command aspect is all about resource management and playing lots of units. Because of this, several cards from this aspect have abilities that let you gain resources outside of the regroup phase (also known as “resource acceleration”). The greatest example of this is the event card Resupply (Spark of Rebellion, 126), which simply puts itself into play as a resource. The resource you gain from Resupply comes into play exhausted, but you’ll feel the difference on your next turn when you have more resources than your opponent. Similarly, the Superlaser Technician (Spark of Rebellion, 83) turns itself into a resource when defeated, however in this case you actually get to ready the new resource right away, opening up all sorts of strategies.
As we mentioned before, in addition to accelerating your resources, the Command aspect also excels at building up a large presence on the table. Use Prepare for Takeoff (Spark of Rebellion, 125) to get a pair of Vehicle units into your hand, then use your plethora of resources to get them in play. If your leader is Grand Moff Tarkin (Spark of Rebellion, 7) and those units were Imperial units, you can strengthen them with Experience (Spark of Rebellion, T01) tokens; or, if they were Rebel units and your leader is Leia Organa (Spark of Rebellion, 9), you can use her ability to have them both attack at once next round. And once you have plenty of units in play, call on Admiral Ackbar (Spark of Rebellion, 97) to deal a burst of damage as an opening gambit.
Between resource acceleration and the ability to call upon and strengthen your units, it’s clear that this aspect is a perfect pick for players who want to flood the arenas and overwhelm their opponents with massive board presence. This playstyle is fully embodied by Command (Spark of Rebellion, 107) itself, a mighty “double-green” event that can bolster your army and your resources all at once!
Commanding Deck Boxes
Once you have built the ideal Command deck for yourself, be sure to store it in style with a matching premium deck box from our official partners at Gamegenic. These innovative deck boxes come with a Slide Card Case for keeping your leader card safe, and thanks to the placement of the case, the stored deck can easily be identified. You can even detach the Slide Card Case and use it during gameplay!
Tune in next month, when we will be showing off the Aggression aspect and what it has to offer. See you then!
