Meta Update from the Devs

July 2, 2025  |  Written by Ryan Miles

Hello, Star Wars™: Unlimited players! Game Developer Ryan Miles here with a metagame update. As usual, we’ll cut to the chase first:

There are no changes to the suspended cards list with this update.

Jump to Lightspeed had a rocky start, leading to the suspension of Triple Dark Raid, Jango Fett (Concealing the Conspiracy), and DJ (Blatant Thief). Since those suspensions, Star Wars: Unlimited has boasted the healthiest meta since the game’s release, with extremely diverse top cuts in our Planetary, Sector, and Regional Qualifiers. While Sabine Wren (Galvanized Revolutionary) looked like an early favorite after the suspensions, an absolute smorgasbord of leaders have feasted as the dust settled. Qi’ra (I Alone Survived) looks poised to end the season at the top, having the highest Top 8 representation and taking down the final Regional Qualifier. However, the margin of Qi’ra’s success is significantly lower than any other “best deck” that the game has seen, winning only 12% of all competitive events. Data Vault appears as the only outlier in overall representation, but with Legends of the Force introducing more tension in base selection with the Force Token bases, as well as strong support for leaders that typically opt into Tarkintown and Energy Conversion Lab, we strongly expect Data Vault to lose some of its meta share without a suspension. In the context of Jump to Lightspeed, the Premier format appears extremely healthy, and no further suspensions are being considered.

That said, Legends of the Force is introducing powerful new pieces to the game, and there are plenty of older tools that we expect to perform better than they ever have. These cards were not originally designed for an environment as Force-heavy as Legends of the Force, in the same way that Triple Dark Raid was not designed for an environment as Vehicle-heavy as Jump to Lightspeed. However, with the heavy impact that suspensions have on the game and player’s collections, we aim to only utilize them when we have data-driven results to guide us and give us the highest confidence that these decisions are the correct ones. For example, had we preemptively suspended Triple Dark Raid, we likely would have missed on the Jango Fett leader and needed multiple suspension announcements to bring the game to where we are now.

We recognize that Legends of the Force will be on full display at our most prestigious event, the Galactic Championship. The Jango Fett leader quickly showed dominance in the early days of Jump to Lightspeed, but the meta still rewarded players who optimized their Jango decks, and the Bossk player who exploited Jango’s weaknesses to take down the Liverpool Sector Qualifier. While Triple Dark Raid was the sole Vehicle outlier, the Force trait has many more options and avenues to explore and push to their extremes. We will use the data and results from the Galactic Championship to guide us in the future, but we also believe that taking action too early would detract from the competition, rather than enhance it.

As we evaluate the current suspended list, we determined that none of the cards are currently viable candidates to be reintroduced into Premier at this time. We will continue to monitor each suspended card as the Legends of the Force meta plays out, with the active intention of bringing back any card whose power level makes more sense in the context of the new meta.
